Azi mama a venit de la cumparaturi. Fusese la un magazin de cartier sa cumpere un pui. Si in drum spre casa mi-a zis ca a vazut o batrana pe la vreo 70 de ani plangand in hohote in mijlocul drumului. Era imbracata saracacios, dar decent, fara iz de cersetoare. De fapt arata precum arata toti pensionarii din Romania. Privea disperata la toti trecatorii si flutura o hartie. Mama s-a apropiat si a surprins discutia femeii cu alta trecatoare. Batrana implora pe cine prindea sa ii dea 11 lei pentru ca nu are absolut niciun ban si trebuie sa isi cumpere medicamentele (aratand reteta de la doctor) caci altfel va face crize si e singura pe lume.

Trecatoarea cu pricina i-a dat 5 lei si mama 6. Banii s-au strans si batrana si-a sters lacrimile. Si totusi.. asta este solutia in Romania anului 2008?

Today my mom went shopping in this neighbourhood little shop. She was out to find some chicken. On the way back home she told me she had seen an old lady in her 70s, crying desperately in the middle of the street. The woman wasnt dressed too well, but still she wasnt a begger. She was reaching desperately to everybody passing, waving a piece of paper she was holding in her hands. My mom went closer to her and she heard her conversation with another person. The woman was begging people to give her 11 let (3 euros) to buy her necessary medicine (showing her receipe), because she had no money what so ever and if she didnt take the pills she’d have a crisis and she’s completely alone in this world.

That other person gave her 5 lei and my mom 6. Her money were raised and her problem solved. She whiped her tears. Still, is that the solution in the Romania of 2008?
